Land Rover Range Rover Celebrates Its 50 Years Anniversary

On June 17, 2020, the Range Rover SUV celebrates its 50 years anniversary. For half a century, the model has been a pioneer in many areas.

The Land Rover Range Rover is the world’s first premium-class SUV with a diesel engine and the first all-wheel drive car with ABS. In addition, the Range Rover was the first SUV with disc brakes simultaneously mounted on both front and rear wheels.

This car was the first to receive the Electronic Traction Control. In 1992, it was Range Rover that first got an automatic air suspension.

It was the Range Rover in which the driver and passengers saw different images on the same screen at the same time.

The manufacturer achieved this thanks to a double-image central screen. It displays plots depending on the angle the user is looking at.

All four generations have changed depending on the time and needs of owners. The first-generation Classic was unveiled on June 17, 1970. In the announcements, the automaker emphasized that the new car combined practicality of a SUV, velocity of a car for traveling, a vehicle for a comfortable pastime and a premium vehicle for daily use. The Range Rover Classic has been in production for 25 years.

The second generation of 1994 is called P38a, because they built it at 38A, Solihull factory. The manufacturer focused on versatility and luxurious design elements, borrowing a lot from the previous generation.

Driving performance was improved: a 4.6-liter engine accelerated the vehicle from 0 to 97 km/h in 9.3 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 200 km/h. Besides, the new generation had an elongated wheelbase and electronically controlled air suspension offered as standard for all Range Rovers.

In 2001, Land Rover developed the third-generation L322 with a rigid body and a fully independent suspension. It integrated the SUV’s high cross-country capability and the attributes of a premium sedan.

The fourth generation of 2012 is the world’s first off-road SUV with a solid aluminum body. Since that time, the brand began to work additionally with plug-in hybrid technologies. In 2017, the Range Rover P400 PHEV appeared.

Range Rover Fifty – 2020 Limited Edition

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its popular SUV, Land Rover has released a special version – the Range Rover Fifty. Its global sales are limited by 1970 examples, the analogy of the year of 1970, when the Range Rover arrived.
